An engine as a generator, a vacuum can generate electricity if it make some changes so that they could produce.
It would be better to use something that will directly affect working as a generator. An engine is a good bet PMDC (DC motor with permanent magnets), but most are quite small.
A car alternator is a simple solution if you look to charge to a battery, Delco generators made in the 1970s were built 80 in control, easy to connect. It is not as efficient as possible, but quick, easy and relatively inexpensive.
